Frequent Questions

Getting Started

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically backed approach that focuses on improving behaviors and teaching new skills by understanding how behavior works. It’s often used to support individuals with autism and other developmental needs by promoting independence and meaningful participation in daily life.

  • Yes, ABA is considered safe and effective. All clinicians follow a professional ethics code and are required to gain caregiver consent before starting or making changes to a treatment plan. We encourage open communication and want caregivers to express any concerns at any time.

  • ABA therapy is typically covered by insurance. The amount of coverage depends on your specific provider and plan. Our team can assist you with verifying your benefits and understanding what is covered.

  • At Beyond Behavior, we provide therapy for individuals as early as 6 months old through adulthood. We believe support should be available across the lifespan.

  • After your child’s assessment, the BCBA will recommend a number of therapy hours based on their needs. Recommendations typically range from 10 to 40 hours per week, and these hours must meet the criteria of your insurance provider.

  • A large part of our approach is building a trusting relationship with your child. Our therapists are trained to engage children gradually and in a fun, motivating way. We adapt our strategies to support participation at your child’s pace.

  • Yes. Insurance providers require caregiver involvement, and more importantly, therapy is most successful when caregivers are involved. We work with you to help apply strategies in daily routines. The level of involvement is flexible and based on your comfort and availability.

  • While our focus is on the identified client, we recognize that sibling interactions are an important part of the family dynamic. When appropriate, we can incorporate goals related to sharing, communication, or play with siblings.

  • If there are specific concerns involving siblings—such as conflict, communication, or play—we can create goals around those situations. However, we are not able to provide full therapy services to siblings unless they are also enrolled clients.

Team & Role

  • Description text goes hereYour child will have a team that usually includes 1 BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) and 1–3 RBTs (Registered Behavior Technicians) depending on the number of therapy hours prescribed.

  • A BCBA is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who oversees the treatment plan. They assess your child, write goals, train therapists, supervise sessions, and meet regularly with caregivers to ensure progress and consistency.

  • An RBT is a Registered Behavior Technician. They work directly with your child during sessions and implement the treatment plan designed by the BCBA. They also collect data to track progress.

  • Most BCBAs provide weekly supervision of sessions and check in with caregivers during that time. The frequency of meetings may vary depending on your schedule and the child’s needs.

  • Every session is tailored to the child’s individual needs, family goals, and home routines. Sessions may include teaching communication, daily living skills, play, social interaction, and behavior strategies. We incorporate activities that are meaningful and relevant to your child’s environment.

  • We offer therapy in the home, school, and community settings. Our goal is to support your child in the environments where they live, learn, and play.

  • Each RBT session is a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 hours. In some cases, two therapists may split the day (e.g., one from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM, another from 12:00 PM–2:00 PM) to meet the recommended therapy hours.

  • Yes. Potty training and bathroom routines are often part of our therapy goals. We work with families to determine comfort levels and create plans to support the child’s independence with personal care.

Progress & Collaboration

  • Therapists collect data on your child’s goals during each session. The BCBA reviews this data regularly to track progress. If progress stalls, the treatment plan is adjusted to better support your child’s learning.

  • There is no fixed timeline. The goal is to help your child reach age-appropriate skills and support your family’s ability to manage routines independently. Some children may need long-term support, while others may meet goals in a shorter time frame.

  • Yes. We believe in a collaborative approach and can coordinate with teachers, therapists, and other providers—with your consent—to ensure consistency across settings.

Scheduling & Logistics

  • During intake, you’ll share your availability and preferences. We use that information to match your child with a therapist whose schedule aligns with yours. We aim to provide consistent times and staff for each family.

  • Yes. If your child is scheduled for more hours than one therapist can cover, two RBTs may work back-to-back in the same day. This ensures your child receives their full recommended therapy hours in a manageable and consistent format.
